Going Green: How to Do It

By

Come on, people! There are a lot of ways for the average household to go green. Going green doesn't mean you have to do some big thing like join in with large groups on special days and do wide-spread clean-up, recycling, or replanting. (Although, those sound real nice, so maybe you should give it a go.) Going green could be as simple as just flipping off the light switch.

The reason there's global warming is because we all consume and burn up too much fossil fuels. It doesn't help that people just leave electric appliances on or plugged in when not needed. That eats up a lot of electricity, so burns up a lot more fuel, and in turn emit more greenhouse gases that make global warming worse. So please turn off all appliances, like lamps, TV, or anything else when you don't plan on using them. It would also be better to just unplug anything from cell phone chargers to blow dryers, and anything else plugged in. You never know if just by being plugged in, uses up electricity.

For that matter, non-fluorescent light bulbs waste a lot of electricity by being on. That's why I recommend buying those fluorescent ones. They last longer than non-fluorescents, and use way less electricity.

And just so you all know, saving electricity to save the environment comes with a sweet bonus. For all the electricity use reduced, your electric bills will reduce with that electric use. You save a bundle of cash for saving the environment like this.

Another way for the average Joe or gal to protect the environment would be to recycle, recycle, RECYCLE. Just toss your plastic bottle, aluminum can, or newspaper/normal paper in the appropriate recycle bin. It's not that big of a hassle. Just look at how much garbage is piling up without recycling. Recycling reduces the amount of garbage being dumped just about anywhere, so there's less pollution. And by getting rid of your plastics more appropriately, less sea turtles, dolphins, and other ocean wildlife won't have to suffer, choke, and croak.

I also heard that there's a sweet deal with plastic bottles and aluminum cans. There's this program going around where for every time you recycle, you get paid back with a little cha-ching. It's not much, but, hey, at least you're getting paid.

And those are just the general things I know. Saving the planet and going green doesn't just have to be limited to what was mentioned in this article. Use that noggin of yours, your imagination, and I'm sure you'll think of something even better than what anyone else thought of doing.
